They pushed it up a lot higher than 7%! Not to mention the favourable exchange rate more than cancels out the raise, its only costing them €4.35 for a .com. :( Far be it from me to tell any company what their profit margins should be, but ~40% seems a bit steep.

 I've worked in places where 40% markup on items wouldn't have paid the bills.

However having never sold domains... I don't know what their costs are. But I'm thinking that you'll see most companies but their prices up about the same amount.

They probably weren't shuffling bits around a network for profit, I'd say. In any case its not like thats all they sell.

The great thing about domain names and hosting is that its very much an international business. Its exactly as easy for most people to order their domains from an American company as from an Irish one, in some cases easier.

That would depend on the TLD.

You won't find many US companies selling anything other than .com

Man this is complete daylight robbery.
At todays exchange rate
€9.62 = $14.23

On godaddy I can register a domain for €6.89 and thats before using any discount coupons. For example I have one now that allows $7.05 .com €4.76.

Thats half the price of a fresh reg on Namesco.

The big problem I have now is that I have about 100 domains registered with them. I can guarantee that I will not be keeping my domains there and will gradually move them as the registration times .

€962 with namesco
€476 with godaddy

A no brainer really.

Personally I've always tried to keep domain names and hosting separate, except for when I need to reg. .IEs.

Good thing there are more than one American domain name registrars, eh?

Also, to be fair ;) Until their new site (a few weeks ago) Michele was charging €8.25 for .com, while Namesco / Register365 have been selling at €5.95 for the last year.
Maybe if they were paying most of their staff third world wages in former soviet states they could have pushed the prices lower faster, eh? Just kidding, just kidding, you've been great. Try the veal, I'll be here all week!

Hi All,

Unfortunately my first post on the forum is a negative one!

I run 4 websites on Register365, and was very happy with them. It was great to have an Irish company that provided a solid, well priced product, and when there were queries or things went wrong I got very fast resolution.

Recently, I decided to set up a PHPBB on one of the sites. I went into my control panel, went to EasyApps, installed it. All great.

Then, I went back, and found that the EasyApps section was 'dead'. A few headings in there, all the links and icons gone.

I checked another of my sites - same thing. All the EasyApps gone.

I opened a ticket. 36 hrs later I got this:

"All EasyApps were removed as they were out of date and we can not update them due to other applications which also require updates. If you want to use any apps that were in Easy Apps section, you will need to download them off the relevant site for that application and then follow instruction on how to install these."

... and they closed the ticket.

So basically they unilaterally, without any prior notice, removed this set of features from the product. I was amazed. What type of customer service is that?

I asked them about the lack of notice and I got:

"At times we have to remove features from the servers without any notice, due to security risk, overheads of maintenance and so forth."

... ticket closed. End of.

Frankly that's atrocious. Maybe I can get to the same place by manually installing, I've yet to try it. But that's hardly the point.

And what will be the next thing that they remove "without any notice, due to security risk, overheads of maintenance and so forth"??

Currently I have another ticket on another matter open with them for over 24 hours, and nobody appears to have looked at it.

So I'll just have to go through the effort of moving my business elsewhere. It's so disappointing.

:(

I have just checked my system and it’s the same as yours..... all easy apps removed.
If this is a service that we paid for why is it now being removed!!!

Again this is conformation that Hosting365 have sold its customers out. Are they still going to come on here and tell us it’s the best company for our money?

This is just another UK company that don’t give a dam about its Irish customers and they have proved it with this recent move.
If you send them a ticket you are basically told “go away you stupid little Irish man” maybe not in those words but as good as.
They don’t even have the decency to re-launch the forum where people can vent their anger.

Well done Hosting365 for getting us such a fantastic deal with namesco. You must be very proud.

They are incapable of transferring .ie domains. WTF like...

I've been contacting them for two weeks and they have no idea how I can transfer domains to them. Joke.

Bye bye register 365.

It doesn't work. After transferring my domains to them, they have no record of the transfer happening. They think this is because my previous registrar letshost.ie are holding onto the domains, which is obviously nonsense. No amount of phone calls or e-mails can sort this out. My only alternative is to stop using them. They don't seem to know what they're doing.

I managed to transfer some domains to them in the past, but I had to get the IEDR involved. Messy.

Why is it "nonsense"?
If the domains were only registered recently they could still be "locked"
