I use much more the google webmaster tools (HTML suggestions, crawl stats, sitemap ratio of indexed pages, links section, and queries section) + AwStats (referers, keyword/keyexpressions, amount of visitors) than analytics.

Analytics can be extremely powerful on some aspects though :
- the conversion tool is fantastic if your site suits
- analisys by keyword
- siteseach stats
...

I would definitely not ban it.

When he speaks about monitoring "bot spiders", I agree it helps but there are some many things to be done before that when it comes to SEO ...
What do you think ?

I find all the details of these systems a bit overwhelming, I must admit. Statistics are helpful, however, and your interesting post has some really good ideas. Thank you. I like really quick trackers, like Trackr for Flickr which I installed here: Flickr: rosewoodoil It gives an average for viewer, so helps to see which photos are more popular. Visitors ebb and flow according to the sort of photos posted. It's not very scientific, but helps me decide what to post. Also, it's a nice program, as there is a description of each country that makes interesting reading. What do think is the most popular quick tracker at the moment?

I use analytics but nust confess I do not pay much attention to the map overlay.

I suppose it's a useful tool but there are so many other more useful things to focus on in analytics
