Semi-dedicated hosting vs. VPS

Some hosting companies offer "semi-dedicated" hosting plans (sometimes called "business" plans or "high-resource" plans). These hosting plans offer more CPU cores, a larger number of simultaneous processes than regular shared hosting, more GBs of RAM etc.

Do you think semi-dedicated hosting could be a good alternative to a VPS? If someone is not experienced enough to manage a VPS, should they choose a semi-dedicated hosting plan?

Possibly. It depends on what they are trying to do. In some cases you might require full root access to the server / VM so any form of "shared" plan won't work. However in many cases simply having more resources available is what you need.
