There are better places and services for conversation than Jaiku. Web forums, chat rooms and blog comments spring to mind straight away.
Whereas Twitter, in it's simplicity, remains the best at what it does -- quick, snappy, to the point, mercifully brief, and constant, updates on what's happening right now.
That's my opinion, anyway
I'm on Twitter and also Jaiku as micflan. Haven't logged into Jaiku in a while though.
