Hi All,

So my new site has been live approx 2 months now Carleton Village Self Catering Holiday Homes Cork, Carleton Youghal. The only thing left up my sleeve is to redirect our old site to the new which will bring the weight of the links with it. But I'm still not doing very well on rankings. My main aim is first page for Cork Holiday Homes, Youghal Accommodation and be no.1 for Carleton Village. I know I need to work on getting links to the site but this is something that I'm finding very difficult to do. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the site ranking higher?

Blog more ?

Nobody wants to link to a shop, a café or a hotel. People might want to link to your cool finds on pinerest , 10 worst holiday homes in the world, holiday horror stories. That's something that's a little bit hard, but it's one way of building links. Engage on twitter, share, communicate, etc.

I don't know about your keyword-stuffed-blog-url ...
http://carletonvillage.ie/family-holiday-homes-youghal-cork-ireland/

maybe you can take a look at how the top lads do it http://www.corkholidayhomes.com/ i.e. deep links to popular pages deeper down in your site.

Maybe don't target so many keywords in one URL. Makes the page look like it is covering a huge amount and Google will find it difficult to know what it is. What about considering what do people search for, probably not all of those keywords together. So maybe set up a page with a URL /holiday_homes_ireland/ and then make sure that page is relevant to that search, so don't have Cork and Youghal all over that page. Maybe one with /holiday_home_cork/ and so on. I presume they could all have the check for availability area in them. Now Google should serve theses pages up to a much more targeted audience and hopefully you will get higher in the rankings and a lower bounce rate because the pages will more likely be relevant to their search term. Now build links to these pages with similar but not identical (at least not all of them) anchor text to your keywords for that page. That is my strategy and it is working reasonably well.
Remember if you put the whole dictionary in your URL Google will have no idea what you are so a tighter set of keywords is probably better. Hope this helps.

Having had a quick glance at your site I think adding a sitemap and better utilisation of your alt tags wouldn't harm. Also maybe consider buying some keyword rich domains that you could develop and use for pointing links to your main site. Keyword rich domains can rank fairly fast in non competitive niches. Have you focused any attention into getting some listings on Google's local search? Again worth doing if you haven't already. With regards getting links-remember its quality over quantity every time.

I would respectively disagree here.

Focus on your own site first before going off and doing micro sites.

Paul-100% agree focus on your own site first.I didn't mean to start building a load of micro sites to try and specifically rank those as well as the main site but rather to consider it as an option to assist the main site and perhaps get some rankings based on the keyword richness to boot.

The idea of redirecting the old domain to new domain is right. For taking good ranking on search engine you need to well perform all the SEO activities. First you need to optimize you website in term of on-page and after completing this task. Perform the off-page optimization to get good ranking on search engine.

You are competing against 164 sites with "cork holiday homes" in their title and url. the #1 has 15 links less than you and the reason it is ranking better than you at #37 is because of the anchor texts you are using. You are don't use "holiday homes cork" or "cork holiday homes" once in your anchor texts like the #1 who uses it every time. Fix that and you should be there or there abouts pretty quickly.

So long as there are no close competitors for your main keyword you should rank easily. Are you using guest blogging as a means to get backlinks and traffic? That idea should work well for you. Just submit articles to very high page rank blogs that are in a similar niche, such as real estate.
