Claiming/Charging VAT on advertising?

Hi all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I have built a site that will generate its sole income through advertising with ad networks. At the moment I am being charged VAT in Ireland on all my equipment etc, which i want to claim back. The tax office told me I can only claim VAT if I charge VAT.

My question is...can I charge the Ad Networks; Ad Brite, Tribal Fusion, Adwords etc VAT? If so, how?

First off, you probably should talk to an accountant. They'll be able to advise you on tax registration and also on what you can and cannot claim

With respect to the ad networks - most of them are outside Ireland, so you probably wouldn't be able to charge them VAT.
