Okay, so I think i got a crazy virus that eats hardware. I've posted up about it on a couple of other forums, and it's stumped everyone.

It started out by acting like a normal virus, so i reformatted and started over. Nope that didn't fix it.

The thing rights its code to read only chips some how, and it attaches to all read only chips in the entire computer. I tried using the sound card on another computer, and sure enough it ate that one up the same way.

I have one week before I take the evidence into USF for a professor to run lab tests on it and do some CSI to see if my chips have been resoldered, manipulated, whatever...

Anyone heard of this? The prof started freakin out saying the news was going to jump all over it IF it turns out to be what he thinks..... anyone know about this or experienced it?

Sounds like a nasty hardware rootkit. Run a search on Google for hardware rootkit and you'll find some reading material. I think you'll be facing a challenge trying to clean it.
