Hey everyone,

I want to start sending out a monthly newsletter to 1000 or so addresses. I was hoping you could give me some guidance on where to start! As I am relatively new to this (I am just an amateur) could you suggest some software that I could use to design a template? One with my own logo and branding, and editing number of columns etc etc.
As for the emailing part, is there a free way to send 1000s of emails without it automatically being put in the spam folders of the recipients? If not, is there a paid version?
Any pointers are greatly appreciated!, I have knowledge of HTML and CSS so editing the templates to suit myself should be ok.

You could try toddle.com - I've heard great things about it and it's easy to use.

Do remember you need people's permissions first and you need to let them opt out permanently.

I dont know how good a marketing platform it is butI'm guessing a 1000 addresses won't do a lot.

Thanks for those suggestions, both are really good. I may pm you php.allstar with more detailed questions about campaign monitor in the future about setting it up, if you don't mind!

@sonic - well you can pm me if you like but I don't mind chatting about this in the open forum from my point of view, the information might prove useful to other users!

Agreed.

If you can discuss things in public it's more helpful for the rest of the members :)

No problem guys!

Well campaignmonitor seems to be the solution for me, its a great service and reasonably priced.
I've encountered my first problem maybe you can help me with it! I'm using one of the given templates, a single column one. I've changed the logos and images all fine but when I want to edit the default text in the HTML file, I get an error on uploading - the title and description tags are missing. I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. I'm using Kompozer to edit the HTML files and all seems fine to me but as I say once I upload the file as a template for a newsletter, its not accepted because the tags cannot be found!

Not sure if I stand under you but are you talking about meta title and meta description tags? If so, these are stripped out as the email template is purely whats within the <body></body> tags of a html file...

Here is a shot of the template at the moment - a simple one:

See the abc widgets text? I want to change that and I want to add an option to put an image in each article.

ah ok...

have you included these tags within a repeater tag?

Code:
<repeater toc='true'>
  < link='true' default=''$>
  < default=''$>
  <img src="< link='true'$>" width="200">
</repeater>

Thanks Allstar.

I figured that it was the editor that I was using that was messing things up. I was using kompozer but it wasn't working out. After changing to coffeecup it was simple, just changed the html and uploaded it fine!
