Google introduced AMP (https://www.ampproject.org/) about a year ago.
There are plugins available for several CMS including Wordpress that help generate the correct markup
However AMP pages are a bit limited in what they'll allow

Have any of you turned them on and if so did it work well for you? ie. more traffic etc

I now install it on all sites. I use the Yoast plugin on our WordPress which ticks all the boxes. I think the jury is out if it improves traffic. There is a lots of noise that Google will reward mobile SERPs if you are AMP enabled as well so it will be interesting to see this develop especially with sites that historically have / had lots of traffic and had neglected this space.

I also think there is going be a big market in making better looking AMP pages also as the above plugin shows a pretty stripped down "Pocket" like version of the site.

Are you using the Yoast AMP bridge extension?
