Has anyone else noticed some apparently unusual behaviour in the "links to your site" page ?

A few weeks ago, I noticed that the number of incoming links had significantly reduced (even though the links are still there). Now I notice the number of links seems to 'randomly' change every few days. All this without any major site or link changes and just the odd new blog post.

I wondered if they are evaluating some links, and removing them if they consider them to be of low value ? Any other ideas ?

Have you compared what Google is showing to what Yahoo shows?

Yep - Yahoo shows about 5 times as many links as Google.
Yahoo is roughly the same number as always, it's just Google which changed - and only recently.

Hi Franc

I noticed the same thing recently.

I would not worry about it though. Google always provided few information about this (remember the "link:" command).

Yahoo site explorer is much better when you want to get a listing of inbound links.

Remember, Google's algo changes up to 400 times a year. Every little change can impact on the links being 'counted'.
