On page refers to elements on your own site that affect your search engine rankings - title tag, meta tags, content, link structure, etc.

Off page relates to factors affecting your site on external sites. Basically the anchor text of inbound links from any sites linking to you, and the value assigned to those external sites all affect your ranking.

I second that!

I suggest you read a couple of sites on "SEO" and you would understand everything in no time. Start your SEO leaning process with Wikipedia entry.

Hi,
On page optimization is what ever you do on the live website.for example metatags, content etc this will have immediate effect to your website when compared to off page optimization.

Off page optimization is nothing but link builkding, directory submissions, social book marking, classified etc

nothing but?

Off-site optimisation is central to SEO, particularly where there are a large amount of competitors with SEO. Its also the must neglected aspect. And it only includes social book marking, classifieds if there is no "nofollow" tag AND/OR where Google has decided not to give importance to links from certain sites, like it is planning to from most social networking pages....

No, MSN and Yahoo and others use nofollow too. Seeing as Google has upwards of 75% of the Irish search market and the other two about 14%, what other SE's do you care about?

dude, onpage works on site pages set up.. like metas, keywords, sitemap... etc.. and offpage works on onsite optimzation, like directories, bookmarks etc.. hope it helps..

On-Page optimization is what being done on the pages of a website to maximise its performance in the SE for targeted keywords related to the on-page content.Eg Keyword Research, Meta Tags, Title Element,Headings etc.
While off page optimization is done off the pages of a website to maximise its performance in the SE for targeted keywords related to the on-page content and keywords in off-page direct-links Eg link building.

Both On and Off page SEO is equally important for a website as together these parts mutually dependent and with any of them not there a website cannot do well.

On page refers to the changes that is being done in the website to optimize the website and make it SEO friendly.Off page refers to techniques that we use other than on page to make the website to rank higher.
