What will happen now? With Boards.ie introducing radical rules like this http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=2056565748 we will see a marked decline in content on such sites. And perhaps a lot of controversy and legal action over copyrighted material on sites like fb and forums like boards. What do you think will happen in the coming months when this legislation starts being fully enforced? Surely internet users and website owners will have to find/make an alternative. Our freedom on the internet is being seriously constrained as if we were in China or Korea!

What are IWF users' thoughts on all of this?

There's an open consultation on copyright which I'd encourage everyone to have a look at and make a submission. The IIA have converted the questions into an online survey which they'll be submitting: Feedback on "Copyright and Innovation Consultation Paper" - Irish Internet Association

Wasn't there supposed to have been a consultation before the SI? Which a lot of the stakeholders never heard about?

The real problem now is that no-one seems to know what the law actually is, and that's not going to be decided until a) there's a court case about it, or b) someone finally gets around to enacting proper legislation that clarifies the issue.

Given it's Ireland, my money is on a).
