The Vaults would be good lots of little out of the way rooms and spaces, I'm sure we could reserve one. Not keen on mickys idea of lunchtime, Saturday night would be best starting about 7-8pm

I'm in

Hi guys,

I'll be coming unless something comes up.

Downstairs in Grand Central (O'Connel Street) would be a good location too if the Vaults isn't possible.

James :)

Not confirmed no.

So any joy on a venue and date for our meetup?

Unfortunately it looks like nothing is confirmed yet. What's the majority vote here? Time is creeping up on us so it would be great to finalise a place in the next couple of days.

Being new in town I'm really out of touch with what's best. I know a couple of places on the south side but have no idea what they are like on a Saturday night.

Okay - so how about February 9th?

Lets try to come up with a venue similar to the Excise Bar - not busy, plenty of seats, and area big enough to take a largish group.

I'm rarely in the city the past few years so I don't know best pub that fits the above, but let's put our heads together and decide a venue.

Right, let's settle on the 9th.

Who wants to suggest a venue?

Well I'm out of the decision making process ... I've never lived in dublin and have only been in dublin twice in the last year for a few pints.

Was in a pub that seemed quiet enough new years eve (granted it was early enough) ... jameson brewery - Google Maps

can't remember the name for the life of me ... was just beside the ice skating rink ... quite central .. quite large ... quite easy to get to (let me guess probably wedged most nights) ... had nice pints of guinness :)

(this is the post where I REALLY show up my lack of knowledge of dublin) :D

Just to confirm, Friday is actually the 8th (not 9th). That suits me perfect.

Trying to think of pub that would suit. Looking through directories at the moment so I'll come back with a suggestion.

lol Forbairt. you probably know more than some dubliners.

Asked she who should know ... all she knows is its in Smithfield ... ah well .. seemed quite nice ... big comfy chairs ... large main bar area .. and then a quieter back area with comfy chairs .. the type of place one could potentially take over ... thats my suggestion ... my work here is done :D its halfway along the square there :D

Ok, suggestions:

Odeon - top of harcourt street
Bleeding Horse - round the corner
Tramco - Nearly in Rathmines
Portobello - On the bridge

Any takers?!

I think for a Saturday night we need to find some where very untrendy. I know that all of those pubs are likely to be busy. Last meet up was in Excise Bar in IFSC which was virtually empty and suited the needs perfectly. It's unfortunately shut for renovations. We could even meet up in a hotel bar - might be another option.

I think the hotel bar is a better option as everything else is going to be packed over the weekend and we "geeks" are not welcome. :)

He guys is this Saturday "February 9th" the or "Friday the 8th" of February.

I vote the Saturday the 9th as do most I think as we keep saying "will this bar be quite on Saturday night" but I'm booking flights tonight or tomorrow so pick one and stick to it!

I also would say a hotel would be best or Jameson but I doubt they would be quite I'll pop an email off to them and find out.

The hotel I normally stay is the (Best Western) Academy just of O'Connell st. (beside the old Eircom building) it has just been done up and has a gorgeous bar which is normally quite too. I'll also pop an email them when I booking.

Any got any other hotel preferences?
