We are almost complete with our new design and we went with WP to manage the whole site. When designing we always hack the default theme or use a theme we already hacked and go from there.
I think on my site I used the default theme, deleted the supplied css and built the css from scratch. It only took about an hour or so, I think! I was quite impressed with how easy this was to do compared to modifying an existing css.
Thanks guys. I've just been looking at the source and it seems to be fairly clean and easy to hack. My main concern was that I matched the design of the rest of the site pixel-for-pixel but it looks like this shouldn't be a problem.
I started with a few downloaded themes, played around but ultimately went back to the Sandbox. It's like starting with a partially blank canvas. I use WP for my whole website now.
