OK I'm going to have a lot of VPS questions over the next little while ... and I don't think its specific to the Hosting company I've gone with (or really so much a support issue) so I'll be posting them here instead (I'm trying to find information on the plesk site as well but sometimes I'm just not finding it).

My first question is ...

Whats the best practice for having www.domain.tld pointing to domain.tld ?

Now I could edit the domains DNS and add in
www.domain.tld CNAME domain.tld.

Then I'd have to go into the apache vhost.conf file and add in
ServerAlias www.domain.tld

Or is there another way of doing it ?

My second question is ...

From the Domains > Domain.tld > Domain Administrator

What is the Domain name WWW [Tick box] domain.tld used for ? :)

Hi Forbairt

To answer your second question , this creates the cname entry in your DNS zone file. So, if you login to PLESK and click on your domain name then click on DNS , you will see a www entry pointing to domainname.tld

www.domainname.tld. CNAME domainname.tld.

To answer your first question , read the answer to your second question :)

Kind Regards

It is on by default though isnt it ?? Is it not ticked when you add a new domain does an Admin (Your hosting company) adds the domain for you ?

When you add a new domain in PLESK , are you using a domain template ?

Kind Regards

Ah ... probably should do some more reading on it all ... :)

Hadn't thought about using a template when setting it up .. will have to create one ...

Cheers for the pointers again :)
