Full description of the event: Press release: Drupal Ireland event - 4th & 5th April, DERI, NUI Galway | groups.drupal.org

Last November we had a successful Drupal meet-up. 73 people came to find out more about Drupal and share their experience. We were amazed at the level of interest from new Drupal users; some of whom had tried it years ago and were returning, and some who had never looked under the hood yet.

I expect there are alot of budding web designers who want to know more about Content Management Systems, and have struggled with Drupal before. There are alot of experienced web designers who have used Wordpress or other, but haven't gotten their head around Drupal yet.

In planning the upcoming event in April, we have taken this into account by making two tracks for presentations: one clearly geared towards the novice, and ones geared towards more advanced topics.

We also found that sitting around and talking about Drupal doesn't help much- you need to get your hands dirty. We're going to have a hands-on activity where two teams will collaborate and build a site together. So essentially, you're getting an insight into how Drupal works from the ground up, with both teams mixed of experienced and novice users.

This is a learning experience where you can get some free training under the guise of a charitable competition. We'll be building two websites for not-for-profits/charities. Big bonus for everyone. Similar events have been run in Drupal groups in France and elsewhere.

If you've ever struggled with Drupal, or you're Drupal-curious, this is the perfect opportunity to find out more.

Don't worry about your Drupal-knowledge. Everyone has something they can bring to the event, whether it's your graphic design experience, your word-smithy, or your CSS acumen- we expect a mixed group with lots of opportunities for people to learn and do.

Also a special visitor Addison Berry from Lullabot, who heads the Drupal Documentation team, will be there. This is a great chance to learn more about the Drupal Community, and meet one of the most helpful members of the Drupal Community. She is especially interested to talk to those who are NEW to Drupal and can make the valuable contributions to documentation.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here or PM me.

While the event is free, please do register if you are coming so we can cater properly.
