Oh yes. Same design style. They were pitching it as

"Get your brand online now. Room for one brand!"

:)

Holy fluck.

I have to guess who's money is being flushed down the loo. I'm amazed the way people just don't get the social stuff.

I mean check out some of the new sites.

At the very least they could have faked some activity.

No about us. No privacy statement. No contact details.

Worst of all no search.

I'd be tempted to put something up just to see what I can get away with. Good case study though on how not to build a viral social network.

Oh, and check out the homepage video frame. They spelt it 'meinthewed'.

How big is the ad Alan? What's the bets they spent more on the ad than on the site?

Ad is big enough, i didn't keep the paper so i cant take a pic but it stood out in the classified section at the back of the paper. About the size of the usual business shop ads that run there.

Maybe they are taking the agile development iterative approach :)

They might want to tell the marketing dept to hold off for a while...

You always know that a website claiming to be 'Ireland's answer to xxxxxx' is going to be laughable... No exception here.

I know someday soon one of my sites is going to pop up in this thread.

For the moment I am pretty disgusted with the Official Garda Website. Needs a serious face lift and at least an update on their missing persons section.

The Garda website truly is a shame, and one of the least accesible sites Around.

(NOTE: The Uk and US cop sites aren't that impressive either. Weird huh.)

Decided to blog about it. Not only does it need a facelift, it is also probably not following numerous EU guidelines for IT accessibility.

For now, I am going to resign myself a breathalyser test each time I drive to work for the next month :(

Do Web designers not have mortgages too? What's this 'pro-bono' trend all about? Our industry has been cheapened and devalued enough as it is.

Ah sure its just a hobby really. My nephew does web stuff. But i understand you want to make a living out of it so if you do this i guarantee you will get a lot of exposure out of it.

I haven't seen a "trend", but since I don't believe revamping (very simply) the site would take a large amount of time I think it's a pity that it is still so dire.

Would be great exposure for someone to re-work their site as a donation. Publicity in the papers at least for anyone looking for clients.

They can easily afford to pay someone to do it properly

As Niall's post points out, it's probably in violation of the Govt's own usability / accessibility guidelines and is truly horrendous to use
I wouldn't mind if it was an SME's site, but this is the bloody government!

It seems to be a trend... Can anyone work out what the hell the navigation menu on the defence forces' site is doing?

The Irish Defence Forces

They've also linked the bloody logo to a non-existent page!
