PunBB is actually a very 'bare-bones' forum and, as far as I can tell, there aren't a huge number of plug-ins available. But it's simple and clean and easily customisable. If vBulletin were free, I'd have used it instead though of course!

PS - Having fully evaluated PunBB, it's actually really useless. Totally under-featured. Before I get any sign-ups, I'd like to change it to a better forum. Can anyone recommend a good, free one with the same kind of interface as vBulletin? I'm not too gone on Vanilla as it's very minimalistic - my ideal would be vBulletin... but free :D

PPS - I think I've found what I'm looking for: http://www.simplemachines.org/

Cheers

Thanks for that 3rigena....

I take all your comments and i will implement them. Thanks. The CSS validation was right but i added something in the other day which was the problem and i forget to check it...

As for the header well its the design i was going for so not going to change that. And yea it is a portfolio project. Well thats what it started out to be.:) Its propbably a mixture of everything now at the moment

I would reduce the size of the header height by at leat 50% its far too big
apart from that its just personal taste, if it was me I would make the left and right areas white and play with the colors of the main site (but thats just personal color taste)

Please Select a language
I would drop this for 2 reasons -

1 - you dont have an irish language version ready
2 - is it necessary

If you want an Irish language version keep it in, but if its not going to be ready "hide the option" and when the site is "as gaeilge" stick the link back in

For me I always dislike users hitting a "coming soon" section as you can hide your future menu plans so easily while getting ready

www.uSwitch247.com

Hi guys,

uSwitch247.com ... it's soooo much better off in your pocket is only live a few days so any feedback is most welcome.

Basically it is a free, find, compare and swicth service in the areas of everyday utilities such as electricity, television, broadband, home phone etc along with insurances such as health, car and travel and also a personal finance and mortgage centre complete with unique wizards designed to make your life easier when it comes to home finance.

Please take a look around the site, try out the wizards and let me know what you think before we go live with the business sister site uSwitch365.com.

www.uSwitchGroup.com is the daddy site but it's not really a user site, more of a corporate site which is quite boring and needs work but hey, let me know if it's worthy of a golden spider nomination...

thanks and i look forward to your views (just don't be over critical) :)

I'd get rid of the "splash" page and just have the forum immediately ...

Dublin Accommodation (free finder) Website Page

:)

I'm in a dilemma with where to go from here with one of my companies website page:-
Almara Accommodations Dublin - a free quality accommodation booking service specializing in the Dublin area. We find and reserve Hostels,B&Bs and Hotels at no charge. Any size group from 1 to 100. If people prefer they can ask us for an availability search and we will give them the contact details to reserve for themselves. See enquiry / advice form at Almara Accommodations
I have a data base of accommodations that show me their availability but I don't want to reveal the accommodations in a list form, because when further information is required I give out the accommodation's own websites.
My sister company is called Almara B&B Dublin (est. 1991) - Almara - Bed and Breakfast - Dublin, Ireland

I'd love some advice.

Hi Oliver, you'd probably be best creating a new post up over here. At a quick glance it's pretty badly created. Tables shouldn't be used to layout a page anymore, css and other scripts should be linked to external files. You page doesn't validate at all - Look here..... and marquee's? :shivers:

Kyle

I have very little idea what any of this means... I have paid lots to get this up and running but was happy as I thought if looked good. Is there realy a lot wrong with it?

I could say it is as it show 3 major javascript errors
plus on the home page you have around 99 html errors and in Firefox the navigation on the left is too large.

and you have hidden text as well (37 to be more specific) which links to other websites that are yours as well so you fail into duplicated content.

Why.............?

As the ex IT & Development manager of one of the biggest hotel rez companies in Ireland, I would suggest that you give more information of what accommadation you have in your database ie: locations, property size, star rating. Most people looking for accommadation in Ireland dont know what it is that they are really looking for. If they did they would do a search for the properties name on google. Also they wouldnt know where the properties are located.

Also I would suggest that you sign up on an hotel affiliate program, that way you can email the people looking for information with affiliate links to the hotels and if they book you make some commission. If you need any more advise email me, rooney.david [at] gmail [dot] com

Kyle, you are not one to criticize Oliver. I have seen your site and it looks like it was put together by a 10 year old. And the attached image proves it, whats with the matchstick man? Is that a tech drawing?

@Oliver: What louie said is right, the hidden text will cause a lot of problems with SERPS. There is also alot of JS errors, I would suggest use firefox with the Firebug plugin. With that plugin it will aid in finding all errors. Also download a copy of Safari, that will allow you to test the site on a MAC browser. But other then that, its a nice design and very fitting to the topic.

That image took me days to complete, how dare you!!! :p

Anything else on my site you'd like to add to your "10year old" statement? Or are you basing this on the one image?
